Relief Chef (CDP and above) - Flexible Shifts Across Hertfordshire
Are you an experienced chef who's tired of the same four walls, the same menu, and a rota that doesn't fit around your life? Appetite4Work is hiring relief chefs to cover shifts across restaurants, wedding venues, pubs, and event caterers throughout Hertfordshire & surrounding areas.
The role
You'll work shifts at a variety of venues, slotting into busy kitchens and getting on with the job. One week you might be plating at a country wedding, the next covering a gastro pub or helping an events caterer through a big function. You tell us your availability, and we match you to shifts that suit. Some are booked well in advance, others come in at the last minute, and you choose which ones to accept.
What we offer
Pay is £17-£21+ per hour, depending on experience, with accrued holiday pay on top. Wages are paid every Friday, not on the month-end. You'll have genuine control over your schedule, an office team that answers the phone when you call, and a quick resolution if there's ever a pay query or a venue that isn't the right fit. Chefs who want more hours tend to get them; those who want fewer can step back without awkward conversations.
About us
Appetite4Work has been placing chefs and hospitality staff across Hertfordshire since 2015. We're rated 4.8 stars on Google by the people who actually work with us, and 94% of staff on Glassdoor say they'd recommend us to a friend, with a 4.7 out of 5 rating for work-life balance. We treat our team like professionals, because that's what they are.
What we're looking for
CDP-level experience is a minimum. You're confident walking into an unfamiliar kitchen and finding your feet quickly. You're reliable, punctual, and take pride in your work. Own transport is essential as venues are spread across Hertfordshire.
Please note this is an agency position - you'll be joining our team of relief chefs on a flexible, shift-by-shift basis rather than a fixed permanent role.
